And leaving ain't easy...

I am quoting someone else for my title, once again, since I cannot find something more inspiring at this time. I'm in Athens for just a little while and the difference with my usual everyday is more than obvious. I feel like a fish drowning out of the sea here. And this might be a good or a bad thing.

One for the trouble, two for the bass. A very interesting summer awaits you.  We are in midst of a political crisis, a love paranoia, and a big hand mixing the soup in general.

Even though I do not believe in metaphysics, I can't wait for the things this summer has to offer me. And we'll see...

Insomnia

I can't sleep lately.

I'm one little step away from creating poetry (not in the literal way).

Planning all my steps.

The world might not be enough sometimes...

Perfect day, perfect relationship, perfect ideals and other bullshit

Ho ho hooo everyone. After stuffing my stomach with multi-culti delicacies (and not bothering to photograph the exotic christmas table once again), I've sobered up and thought about this.

Lately, I've been doing something I didn't use to. Which is, envying others. Not in a bad way for others, just for me. And, while thinking that what other people have is perfect, you just throw your own inferiority complex to the pits.

But that's just a pile of bollocks. Every of those "perfect" things that we perceive comes from an endless struggle with yourself AND the people around you. So, what do we really envy? A ghost of reality?

I'm too tired to go on. Maybe another time. For now, the song is for you...

Betting.

The last days of this year are strange. Not stranger than usual, but still. We could call them "closing". Paying the bills, giving ends to stories that should have closed long ago, finding who's in and who's out for the next part of the trip. And betting, of course. Lucky games are part of the whole ending situation. You can never know the ending of the story if you don't try. Even if chances are against you.
The last days of 2013 are gonna be fun. And then we'll see...

Walking in high heels 'round Exarcheia and other paradoxalities

Ok, so this post is gonna consist of brief comments about those holidays.

1. I finally understood why I shoot nothing lately. It's because of my utter disinterest in almost everything that I go through. Been there, done that, shot that. And the digital camera (even my beloved x100s) doesn't help because it makes things more complicated. Change the white balance, change the iso, look at the picture, shoot it again... It's a bore. I so miss the good ol' days when I shot one or two pictures and actually saw them in a month or so. Things are going too fast nowadays. So, in the midst of trying to fix my general nihilism, I might also try to shoot digital like film. And we'll see...

2. Looking like your parents when you're only in your twenties is an alarming fact. Going to sleep early, being upset over casualties, skipping things with your friends is wrong even in their age. And, getting over the fact that it's disappointing for you, is it a bearable situation for them? I wonder.

3. This year smells nothing like christmas. Be it the thousands of homeless people on the streets (and the sweaters dressing the trees, not them, for Christs sake), my age or the sleeplessness, I haven't felt the utter joy yet. But the holidays ain't over anyway.

4. I'm getting onto very nice music. And even working. Oh, joy.

So, happy holidays everyone and I hope the next post will be less sarcastic. In-between phases are tough.

The unfriendly city named Athens

It's been a long time since I've been here. But it seems unpleasant as ever. If I could just separate some pieces of it and throw the rest away it could be lovely. But it's not the case. Growing up in a (international, but even though) village, this city gives me the creeps. Too many people, too much pretense. How the hell could I ever live here?and how the hell can people even live here? There are people that show me how I could do it. And others that push me towards leaving away this second. That's a question that will haunt my mind for a long time I think.

Goodbye 2011. It's been nice

la dinde

We've had a lot to eat, to drink and to fight for. The first two are diminishing but fighting won't.
I wish a nice year to everyone. See you in 2012

I'm bored of people moaning nowadays

As I thought before, even without Internet I still had books. And goods ones, to keep me company. But recently, every glossy publication I try to read seems to moan and groan about the lost limos, nouvelle cuisine meals and hilton stayovers because of the crisis. And everybody from the upper class (or the wannabe upper class) feel their share of guilt for the money they were throwing away. I'm sorry, I feel no share of guilt at all. And I've never used a limo to be able to miss it. I might have eaten nouvelle cuisine, but that wasn't my everyday food, so I won't miss it either. But I think these people, trying to "repent" for the sins of a life of luxury are like Marie Antoinette right now. You can't cry and weep and try to seem strong because you can't eat brioche when everybody else can't eat bread. And everyone remembers what happened to Marie Antoinette...

Don't talk to me today...

and by the way, I read yesterday that Henri Catrier Bresson was also thinking about the relation of chaos and order. Swell.

A soft blue line

It's a fact. The holy days of the Holidays (yes I know how absurd this sounds) have arrived. Being a complete geek, I prefer writing my last post before Holidays part 1 instead of doing useful things like packing my suitcase. Anyway, I'd like to tell you lots of things, including why girls should NEVER wear wedges bigger that their legs (it's deeply unattractive) but then I remember what's happened in the last days of my life and prefer shutting up. So here's a collection of the big Protest in Syntagma on the 29th of June and a gift.

Tempted...

by the world of street photography. It seems more honest to me.

Noise

Today I learned about the death of one of the country's dearest singers, Nikos Papazoglou. I can't say I knew his songs all that well, but he sung one that I have been yearning to sing many, many times

Athens Fashion Week was a week ago

...and I'm not sure I wanna talk so much about it. I went to one show, DELIGHT, that was quite nice (although I'm not that much of a velvet fan and ultra- wearable things). This was my favorite look, because of the different textures.

But otherwise, fashion week wasn't that much of an excitement. Frankly, I've been following AFW for the last 5-6 years and I can say that the best week ever was in november 2008. After this, it's slowly going down...
Which ain't strange, considering the economical and social situation of the country but the kid in me just wanted more...

I had a grrrRRrrreat weekend. BF's birthday party, my favorite japanese food and an opportunity to try on my new knee high socks. The pictures will talk for me

Aunty

The title sure looks strange but it's part one of my great discoveries of the day.
So let's get to the main subject. A few months ago, dear Sandy Kay Forkinidio (here's her Flickr) sent me a review of boutique theia in the center of Athens, a place with retro looking corsets. And having time on my hands (and a car, actually) I went looking.

Here's what I found. A little shop that's forgotten time and looks chic and nostalgic. The corsets are handmade (and so is the rest of the clothing) and the lines flattering. Oh, and if you see the swimming cap lookalikes in the last picture, they're actually clutches. And I got one in colour peach.har har har :p
